Placing of 1500 Commemorative Flags
These events will begin at 6:00 PM with the traditional placing of more than 1500 flags on Asheville’s Unitarian Universalist Church lawn, commemorating many times that number of American military and Iraqi civilian deaths which have resulted from the Iraq War and occupation. We invite you to come and help.
Short Film and Presentation by Ann Cothran of No More Victims
A special Social Justice program will follow the above in the Asheville UU Church at 7:00 PM. A short film will describe the 2004 attack on Fallujah, showing how the devastation of war and occupation has afflicted Iraqi civilians. There will be a presentation by Ann Cothran from No More Victims - South Carolina, along with a short film, “Salee’s Story”, telling how Salee was injured by a US missile, followed by a presentation on the work of No More Victims, which brought Salee to our country for medical care & a video of the time Salee spent in Greenville, describing how that visit impacted the people with whom she met. After Salee’s visit to Asheville last year, "No More Victims – Asheville", came into being and decided to help Salee's sister, Rusul, whose lower extremity was badly injured from the same explosion that wounded Salee and killed 2 other children. No More Victims - Asheville will be raising funds for Rusul's medical expenses, so she will also be able to obtain proper medical treatment at Shriners Hospital in Greenville, SC. We invite people to attend and learn how to help Rusul. For more information, contact Lew Patrie at 299-1242.
