Letter sent by WNCPSR to Congressional Legislators
The United States doesn’t have the right to threaten the extinction of humanity! Our unnecessarily large nuclear arsenal does that.
Stop the Sentinel Program. Land-based weapons must be launched quickly in a potential crisis without time to gather more information. Accidents happen.
Stop the Golden Dome. No chance of ever working.
Stop building new plutonium pits. Unnecessary. Encourages proliferation.
Stop Launch-on-Warning. Accidents happen.
Stop the possibility of launch by a single human. Accidents happen.
Cooperate in international efforts to diminish the number of nuclear weapons on earth. A small number of nuclear weapons would not threaten to make humans extinct. Accidents happen.
Human extinction would not happen painlessly or quickly. It would be a very long process for those unlucky enough to survive the initial blasts. It would include very much pain, (agonizing physical pain and mental desperation), hunger, disease and loss (electricity, clean water, cell phones, tv, internet, transportation, medicines, hospitals, clean water, …) for all living people, including children.
Thanks,
WNC Physicians for Social Responsibility
