Oppose Plutonium Pits in SC
WNC’s Physicians for Social Responsibility and Veterans for Peace note this 75th anniversary of nuking Japan. Contemplate US proposed creation of even more nuclear weapons. Consider the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists latest “Doomsday Clock” warning: our world is ever closer to that unthinkable outcome, nuclear armageddon. Detonation of only a few current-day nuclear weapons threatens world population, risking global famine from a nuclear winter.
A pending global treaty supported by many of earth’s nations is in the works. It is ironic that it is opposed primarily by nations that already have these genocidal weapons. In fact our nations media have not even bothered to tell our citizenry about the proposal.
Shouldn’t we work with other nations to ratify this new international treaty banishing these genocidal weapons
Shouldn’t our nation’s interest be in ridding the world of these most powerful killing machines, not creating more? Shouldn’t we reject our military-industrial powerhouse’s proposed 75th anniversary increases, not creation of more as they propose?
We stand opposed to proposing to create more plutonium pits for the first time in South Carolina that would be the trigger mechanisms for doing the opposite of what’s required for our citizens and all world’s people.
