It Is Time to End the New Cold War
September 26th is the tenth anniversary of the United Nations designated International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
On the grounds of the UN is a sculpture of St. George slaying the dragon- a symbol of this day-and clearly showing what can happen when enlightened leaders act in the best interest of their nation and people.
The sculpture is made from parts of dismantled Soviet SS-20 and U.S. Pershing missiles that had been deployed in Europe in the nineteen eighties.
President Reagan and Soviet President Gorbachev got it; they understood that one reason nuclear deterrence is flawed and dangerous is because humans in charge are flawed.
It’s time for the U.S. to lead the way and send an observer delegation to the second meeting, in November in NYC, of states party to the 2017 UN Treaty to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons.
