July 19, 2013

Present: Dr. Terry Clark, Dr. Stan Dienst, Beth Gilman, Steve Gilman, Dr. Lew Patrie

Lunch and refreshments began at 12 noon, and the business meeting began at 12:45 PM.

KEY BUSINESS:

1. The minutes for the WNC/PSR May 2013 meeting were posted on our website as final before the meeting and everyone was given the opportunity to comment. There was consensus to move forward to other business without further comment. There was no formal WNC/PSR chapter meeting last month due to our chapter picnic and recognition event.

2. Terry reported that our chapter balance is $1,358.63. Since our May meeting there were expenditures related to the engraving for recognition plaques.

3. Stan provided a brief update regarding the proposal for a future 2013 WNC/PSR event at MAHEC (Mountain Area Health and Education Center). Stan has pricing for audio/visual use, per-person buffet charge, and other items as well. We developed a two-person subcommittee (Terry and Stan) to continue planning an event there. There was concurrence that the event would aim to recruit medical professionals in the area, and that the theme would be along the lines of Dr. Ira Helfand’s nuclear weapons threat message.

4. Terry reported that there will be no Southern Green Living Expo in 2013 and that a March 2014 Expo was in the planning stages.

5. Terry will follow up with NC physician William Blackely regarding biomass burning and release of toxins.

6. Lew received support to pursue additional details of the Keep Space for Peace plans this fall and determine actions we can take.

7. Terry reported that our chapter’s wncpsr.org website redesign has been completed.

8. Our June picnic was held at Terry and Brita’s residence. WNC/PSR chapter members who have made enormous contributions were honored, and from all reports, all attending this event found it to be a very fun-filled day.

Next meeting: 12:00 pm Friday, August 16, 2013 at the home of Steve and Beth Gilman (18 Birchwood Lane, Asheville).
