Fukushima is by far the world’s worst story of Nuclear Power accidents. For radiation releases into the environment, to date it is four times Chernobyl and 29 times Hiroshima.

Ira Helfand, M.D. Co-President, International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) Dr. Helfand delivered a presentation “Confronting Nuclear Weapons in the 21st Century” on Monday, December 3rd, 2012 at The Social Hall of The Asheville Jewish Community Center. The event was sponsored by The Western North Carolina Chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility. We believe the U.S. must quickly develop a clear plan to phase-out existing nuclear reactors at the earliest possible date and replace their power with clean, sustainable energy sources. This phase-out implies a speedy end to nuclear fuel production, and to uranium mining, importation and processing.
