Minutes of PSR-Western North Carolina Chapter   May17,2024

Present: Brita and Terry Clark, Bob Howarth, Dot Sulock, Bert Crain, Bill Djang

The minutes of the April 19th meeting were approved.

Bert gave the treasurer’s report: We have $3909 in our account.

Bert gave a summary of the May 14th CAN committee zoom meeting: There was discussion of the increased existential threat we all face from nuclear weapons. There have been a few new endorsements for BftB including the Western Massachusetts Labor Federation. 95 billion is the cost for this year’s nuclear weapons’ programs. ICAN has called for a Global Week of Action June 17-24. The Maine chapter is able to meet yearly with Senator Angus King.

The working committee on climate change had a successful day at the Earth Day 5K run. There were 75 plant and information give-a-ways and more than 50 sign-ups for our quarterly newsletter. People expressed their appreciation for our work.

Brita reported on the One PSR Committee meeting. Fossil-free for Health is a new group that PSR will support. It was also stressed to get out the vote.

WNCPSR is co-sponsoring a Webinar interview of author, Annie Jacobsen, recent acclaimed book “Nuclear War, A Scenario”, webinar on May 29, 8:00 PM.

- The Vow from Hiroshima….

Film about the TPNW and Setsuko Thurlow, Hiroshima survivor, Nobel Prize winner for her work promoting TPNW. The film is now on PBS!  You can see it streaming here:

It is a great source of HOPE FOR THE WORLD!
