PSR- WNC Chapter -Minutes of Meeting 11/15/2024
Present: Brita and Terry C., Dot S., Sally T., Phil B., Scott B., Brian C., Bert C.
We read and signed a letter prepared by Dot for our congressional representatives emphasizing the horror of nuclear war as well as the urgent need to stop the dangerous and useless Sentinel Missile Program.
We remembered Lew Patrie as a real PSR hero and signed a card for his daughter.
We reviewed the minutes of the last meeting and approved.
Treasury Report: We have a balance of 4118. We also received a gift of 2000 from the estate of Miriam Pritchard. We also are in receipt of 4465 in funds from various charitable accounts, 3500 of which is clearly designated for flood disaster relief and will be so rendered.
Bert reported on the last 2 CAN Committee meetings which were centered on Elaine Scarry’s analysis of our flawed concept of deterrence and the need to continue the work of nuclear abolition, no matter what the results of the election. IPPNW will hold a World conference in Nagasaki in 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the bombing.
We had a long discussion of military expenditures and the necessity of stopping the Sentinel Missile.
Brita and Terry attended the chapter leaders’ meeting that stressed the importance of civic involvement with other groups as well as the importance of bringing youth into our movement.
We will continue to pursue dialogue with Senator Tillis and try to convince him that a nuclear posture without land-based ICBM’s makes us safer with considerable savings that are sorely needed. Bert prepared a 2nd follow up letter to Tillis and his aide Nancy Beaujeu-Dufour.
Scott Mahan has requested articles for our next newsletter.
Brian Campbell -Executive Director of National PSR- will be meeting with The Alliance for Nuclear Accountability next week.
The next meeting will be 20 December at Dot’s home.
