March 21, 2025
PSR-Western N.C. Chapter
Minutes of Meeting 3/21/2025
Present: Terry and Brita Clark, Sally T., Phil B., Dot Sulock, Bert C.
The minutes of December and January meetings were reviewed and approved.
Brita had a letter published in Mountain Express. She stressed the importance of cooperation, working together and doing even the little things that impact the larger problems like climate change and environmental degradation. This is felt to be important in setting an example for others, particularly the younger generations.
Bert gave the treasurer’s report: We had no deposits or debits and a balance of $5,183.
Terry will consult with an accountant we have worked with previously to complete the annual 990 tax form for 501c3 non-profit organizations.
We discussed whether Brita should change messaging on her plants as some who have received them already have our initial messaging. We decided to think about this.
We discussed changing the meeting time to early evening to perhaps attract some new membership. This was tabled for now.
Bert gave a summary of the CAN zoom meetings in Feb. and March.
February:
Martin Fleck is leaving the position of Nuclear Abolition Director. Magritte Gordanier will be the new director. Participants felt that PSR should get out a white paper soon stressing why resuming nuclear testing should not be resumed. Preparations are being made for IPPNW’s 24th World Congress Oct. 1-5 in Nagasaki, Japan.
March:
200+ civil societies were represented at 3MSP. The next review is scheduled for Nov. 2026.
Annie Jacobsen donated 500+ copies of her book: Nuclear War a Scenario to be presented to every member of congress.
One PSR chapter leaders report: Terry reported that 501c3 groups may be pressured if their messages are contrary to goals of the current administration.
Gender Radiation Impact Project will become Generational RIP. Next meeting 4/11.
