II.) Treasurer’s report, balance: $3,862 on 5/17/19, Lew
III.) Business
- Back from the Brink Project, Asheville City Council
Noted that members have met with Asheville Mayor and Vice Mayor and one council member. The proposal was well received with recommendation that we prepare and submit a draft for a proclamation by City Council rather than a resolution. Plan: develop a draft proclamation.
- Report on conference call of PSR Committee on Abolition of Nuclear weapons, Major focus is the Back from the Brink Initiative. More cities, towns, states and organizations expressing support.
- One PSR chapter leaders conference call report, Terry, reports that meeting focus was the capacity of the various chapters to be productive and what resources from national PSR might be most helpful.
- Cherry Tree Project in commemoration of Hiroshima /Nagasaki, Leslie provided phone report that she is working on various aspects of the project and will provide a report at July meeting
- Lew noted that there is a newly released publication, Compendium of Scientific, Medical, and Media Findings Demonstrating Risks and Harms of Fracking, sixth edition
- Risk of war with Iran, concern that the public seems largely unaware of escalating risk of war.
- Resumption of meetings on third Friday of each month at The First Congregational United Church of Christ. Terry conferred with Nadine who confirmed that WNCPSR group is on the schedule for continued meetings.
