Minutes WNC/PSR April 17, 2015

Present: Steve Gillman, Robert Howarth, Irma Howarth, Lew Patrie, Stan Dienst, Phil Bisesi, Phil Pritchard, Beth Gilman, Brita Clark, Terry Clark, Mary Olson, Larry Missig

I.     Review and approval of minutes of March 20, 2015, two revisions. Specifically: Attendees listed. Added an omitted item, decision to send $300 donation to OREPA, following their recent appeal which included reference to possibly legal action Against National Nuclear Security Agency for failure to repeat an required environmental impact study for the proposed Uranium Processing Facility

II.    Treasurers Report: Lew Patrie, balance on 4/13/15 $1665.50

III.    Business:
-    Steve Gilman reported on his visit to The NC Triangle area, as he accompanied Ira Helfand as he gave several presentations.

-    April 28th Event: Medical Consequences of Nuclear War, planning committee working on details.

-    Upcoming WNC/PSR events document: being prepared as handout at conference on April 28th. Terry will contact Ralph Hutchison to arrange a date for Ralph to visit Asheville for an update on UPF and related nuclear weapons issues.

-    Green Drinks/WNC/PSR presentation, 5/27/15,  6:30 – 8:00, Green Sage, downtown Asheville restaurant, Mary Caldwell, Medical Ethicist, Mission Hospital

-    Drone Quilt Project, Terry shared a proposal presented to the WNC/PSR Chapter by Ken Jones of VFP to co-sponsor a showing of this art exhibit at The Asheville Area Arts Council Gallery in the Grove Arcade, on July 13-25th. Current co-sponsors are Asheville Chapter 099 of Veterans for Peace and Western Carolinians for Peace and Justice in The Middle East.

Action: The group voted to co-sponsor the art exhibit. Terry will communicate this to Ken Jones

-    National Board meeting: Steve Gilman will attend April 23-25th
-    Next meeting: Friday, May 15th, 10:30 AM – 12:00 noon at home of Steve and Beth Gilman
